Top Shelf: Rick Jeanneret Locked in for 2016-2017

One more year, just one more year. That’s the thought that crosses every Buffalo Sabres fan’s mind when it comes to our favorite play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret.  His spectacular play calling is everything the term ‘legendary’ can encompass and has been a well-known name (and voice) in Buffalo sports. Ever since the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, Jeanneret has been idling on the fence of return, adding one season at a time.

We all held our breath in 2014 however when we got the terrible news of his diagnosis of stage 3 throat cancer, fearing not only for his life, but for the Buffalo spirit as well. His treatment lasted about 8 months until the greater Buffalo area was notified he was cancer free.

Seeing as our favorite announcer is no rookie to his trade, we have all been guessing as to when Rick would retire…that is until the announcement that came yesterday alerting us that Rick Jeanneret is locked in for the 2016-2017 broadcasting season.

Even though we’re still not sure as to how many games, or which games he may be shouting “Ooooooovertime”, Buffalo fans are ecstatic to hear that the 73 year old will be with us for at least one more year.
