Buffalo 3, Syracuse 2: Three Run Blast Carries Bisons

All that the Bisons needed to beat the Syracuse Chiefs 3-2 tonight was one Caleb Gindl swing.

Gindl put the Bisons on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning. Gindl did so with his fourth home run of the season. The shot was a three run blast that scored Luke Scott, who singled, and Brad Glenn, who walked. An added note, Gindl’s wife baked cookies for those of us in the press box. There is no direct correlation between the baked goods and the on field play, though I would personally suggest continued cookies for the crew upstairs until we have further evidence.

The Chiefs didn’t waste any time making up the difference. In the top of the third inning Syracuse used three hard hit line drives to plate two runs. Each of the three was roped into left field, and got there quickly. The rally got the Chiefs closer, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

However, that slim lead would hold until the end of the game. In the top of the ninth the Chiefs got two runners on base—enough to get the crowd nervous, but not enough to score or change the outcome. Buffalo won the game 3-2 in front of the excitable crowd. The two teams square off again tomorrow at 6:05 p.m.

Mascot Race

Chicken Wing likely had his dirtiest race of the year. And, naturally, it led to a victory. Out of the gate Chicken Wing destroyed Celery. Nearing the finish line he again boxed out Atomic Wing and shoved Blue Cheese. Clean or not, the victory was Chicken Wing’s for the day.
