Buffalo 4, Lehigh Valley 5: Bisons Comeback Falls Short

Though the Bisons would make an effort filled comeback in tonight’s game, it would not be enough to overcome the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Buffalo dropped the game 5-4.

In the second inning the Iron Pigs got on the board first. They got themselves into a first and third situation, and executed perfectly. The two base runners pulled off the double steal, the man on third taking home following the throw down to second base. The run gave Lehigh Valley an early 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning Lehigh Valley truly broke the game open. They added three runs to their total, getting themselves a 4-0 lead. The Iron Pigs loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Following a mound visit and a strikeout, a bases clearing triple came along to dash any hopes of a Bisons victory tonight.

In the seventh the Iron Pigs again tacked on a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly. The addition took the Lehigh Valley lead to 5-0. Though that lead seemed comfortable at the time, it would prove to be quite the opposite.

The Iron Pigs starter Aaron Nola was phenomenal throughout the game. He mechanically mowed down Buffalo, stifling the Bisons’ bats throughout his 7 2/3 innings of work. The Bisons did find a rally of their own in the bottom half of the eighth inning, when they finally got to Nola. The Herd was able to push across two runs on three hits. Nola, following the runs and a walk, was pulled from the game. However, the reliever didn’t make much of a difference to the Bisons. Another walk and an error from the Lehigh Valley right fielder gifted the Bisons two more runs and a 5-4 rebirth into the game.

Unfortunately though, Buffalo went quietly in the ninth inning and lost the game by the same score. With the loss Buffalo officially drops the series against Lehigh Valley, though they have a chance to avoid the sweep tomorrow at a 1:05 p.m. day game.
